Marc Neyen is a name to watch with a ceaseless and hardcore gaze. This time he brings Archipel an unbelievably rich and mind altering album entitled “Esmeralda”. The beauty contained within defies words but for the purposes of giving you an idea of what this album encompasses we will give you some brief descriptions of this vivid work. Esmeralda is an intensely diverse body of work with instrumentation that is rarely so rich, diverse and warm all at once. Many speeds and moods are showcased with absolute dedication to detail and feeling. Pieces such as ‘Oh Je’ and ‘Limonade’ flow gently with strength and are laced with atmospheres of ultrapleasant dreamborne emotions where percussion fits in like perfectly set precious minerals in rare metal jewelry from parallel dimensions. Gentle dawn kissed tunes like ‘Children’s Corner’ and ‘I Move Alone’ carry in their veins the blood of morning light creeping out from under cotton beds of mist and silver dew drops dive off of the edges of blades of grass. Continuing further on with an even warmer and sundrenched feel are ‘Marginella’, ‘Au Clair De La Lune’ and ‘Esmeralda’ where Marc lets a large portion of jazz influence in while he incorporates beautiful and masterfully executed acoustic instrumentation blended to the perfect ratio with his smooth, deep and rolling percussion where rhythms are nothing short of intricate. The album includes even further delicate moments in ‘Chat Noir’ and ‘In A Heartbeat’ which feature layer upon layer of sound that collects in ribbons like smoke curling in evening light. Marc’s strength as both a musician and a producer is mesmerizing and as a whole, and as individual pieces, Esmeralda makes this as clear as daylight. Let yourselves bathe within it.
